I discussed the Press Pass Kickoff Edition Blasters previously and there's a link in the best boxes sidebar. Basically, for $25 you get four exclusive rookie on card autographs and a few retail packs of Press Pass Portrait Edition which are pretty terrible. I didn't do so well this time, but I did pull a Clausen auto.
I'm a big fan of the SJAX three color patch with stitching. The Rams team colors go well with the gold team theme.
Today's question for three entries into the final drawing: What's the best pull of your life?
Well, I've never pulled anything of much consequence. I've never been one to pull relics or 1/1s or autos. In fairness, I don't buy many packs or boxes.
ReplyDeleteBack in February, when I was just coming back to collecting, I pulled a Robinson Cano 2011 Topps 60 relic. It was a huge pull for me and really got me excited about collecting again. The card itself would have only cost be a few bucks on eBay, but pulling a relic of my favorite team and one of my favorite players really made me that much more excited about collecting. I look at it as important as that sense, although I'm anxious to eventually pull something that is really rare.
Hmmm... I've never pulled a relic. Never pulled an auto. So I'd probably have to go with a Bryan Bulaga 2010 Score parallel, #'d/100. Definitely the lowest-numbered card I've pulled.
ReplyDeletealthough I didn't know it at the time... pulling 8 Wayne Gretzky rookies as a kid and taking care of them was my best. Since then probably a Masterpieces Demarcus Ware auto Patch /50 would be it since I'm a huge Cowboy fan.
ReplyDeleteoh, and Anthony, I sent you an email yesterday about our trade. Just want to make sure you got it.
I would have to say a 2001 Team Topps Frank Howard autograph card! Of course I wasted no time in trading the card at my LCS store.
ReplyDeleteProbably a Desmond Jennings auto from a TriStar product.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite though is a Matt Kemp 2010 Ginter jersey relic, what with him being my favorite player and all.
Back in the old days, I pulled a 1991 Donruss Elite insert of Rickey Henderson. These were some of the 1st cards to be serial numbered, out of 10000. Huge pull at the time. Then I traded it straight up for a Dr. J RC! Then my basketball cards got stolen and I stopped collecting. Oh well!
ReplyDeleteI haven't typically had great luck with pulls, but I did land a 2011 Bowman Bryce Harper auto redemption card this summer. As anyone who followed my blog knows, it was directly and indirectly the basis for a LOT of posts...
ReplyDeleteI've pulled a couple printing plates and 1 of 1's but my best pull is probably the Fred Frankhouse original Goudey card that I got out of my 2007 Goudey box earlier this year.
ReplyDeleteI pulled one of the very first relic cards. It was of A Rod as a mariner and I got $175 in trade for it at the LCS
ReplyDeleteHell, didn't even need to think about that one...
ReplyDeleteMrs. Dawgbones was the pull of my life, and I'm damned lucky to have her!!!
This is kind of sad, but up to this point in my life my best pull is probably an on card auto of Neftali Feliz out of this years Gypsy Queen. I pulled an A-Rod relic about 6 or 7 years ago when relics where much less common, but now that card is probably only worth a buck anyway.
ReplyDeleteAs an aside, any plans for the Clark Press Pass auto?
I think the best was from Pinnacle Inside, the cards in a can. I can't remember if it was 97 or 98, and can't find the details online to figure it out, but it was a Cal Ripken, shiny and die-cut. I remember looking it up and finding it worth about $300. I traded it at a flea market for McGwire and Griffey rookies and a pile of Cardinals.
ReplyDeleteMy best pull was an autoographed Press pass Jeff gordon
ReplyDeleteI haven't pulled too many relics or autos, but I guess I'd say my 2010 Topps Chrome Stephen Strasburg auto.
ReplyDeleteI pull a 2008 UD Masterpieces Ryan Braun Relic
ReplyDeleteThe best pull I got was an A.J. Piezynski 1/1 mini out of a 2010 Topps 206 box. It wasn't a huge name or big money but, it got me pumped because it was a 1/1!
ReplyDeleteI got back into collecting in 2007 and the first relic I pulled was a 2007 SPX Cal Ripken Jersey. That and a Griffey Jr. auto from 2006 Ovation were probably my best pulls yet.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite pull was my 1990s Skybox no number USA basketball card. It was worth $20 at the time which was about 20x my net worth at the time. I still have it and it is one of my favorite cards of all time.
ReplyDeleteI also pulled a 2010 Topps T206 Strausburg printing plate last summer. It was a month after he got injured, but I still got $200 on ebay for it which helped me purchase some Hochevar cards that I wouldn't have been able to afford.
My avatar pic... it's a 2010 A&G Cabinet Jumbo box loader... Autographed jumbo jersey panel, part of the 5 in Tim Linsecum's jersey, 1/1. I wish I had a great Astros pull, but this one is the best I've got!
ReplyDeleteI pulled a 2009 T206 Babe Ruth relic, the Polar Bear version. A sweet looking bat card. The bat chunk must have been a piece from the outside of a stained bat because it was black. Anyway, great pull, made my hands shake.
ReplyDeleteEasy. From 2011 Heritage, a Frank Robinson/Mike Stanton dual auto/patch relic numbered to 10. I just recently ebayed it for $250 and used the funds to purchase a Sidney Crosby Winter Classic jersey, a used 27" TV and a Frank Robinson auto/bat relic card from Triple Threads.
ReplyDeletethis was a recent pull (at some point i'll post it).....1997 Bowman Derek Jeter auto.
ReplyDeleteI think I'm late! But regardless, I'm still commenting for the fun of it.
ReplyDelete2005 was a good year for me, probably because I spent so much on wax. I pulled a 1/1: 2005 Absolute Memorabilia Marks of Fame Autograph Swatch Double Spectrum Prime
Yeah, whatever that means. It was a dual-patch autograph of a retired star (who I can't ever remember).
It's not my best pull in my mind, though. Nice, but not my best.
I pulled a Griffey Jr Bazooka mini from a pack of Ginter at some point, and sold it on eBay. Made a decent bit of money, but not my best.
Back in the '90s, I opened a box of Stadium Club that had a 1st Day Issue (usually one per box?) in every pack, including some big (for the time) names. Still not my best.
My best: A Tony Gwynn Emerald autograph out of 2005 Baseball Heroes. It's a beautiful color on one of my favorite set series, of my favorite batter of all time. It's not worth the same as the Griffey brought, as limited or as valuable as the 1/1, but it's the card that means the most to me that came out of a pack!
I'm too late but I pulled a 1/1 Shawn Green purple masterpiece from Fleer Focus ( around 2000). That was back before there were many 1/1s out there.
