He also threw in some really cool extras including a Fathead and a silly band!
Can anyone please explain to me what the 2007 SP Authentic Letterman autos spell? For Matt Cain and Tim Lincecum I saw I, A, and N, so I thought they spelled out Giants. However, there are also O's and lots of different numbered letters. I really can't tell what's supposed to spell what.
By the way, as we approach the end of the contest, I can assure you there will be more prizes at the final drawing than just the grand prize!
Here's an opportunity to earn two entries towards the contest:
If you could buy any card you wanted, what card would it be? (for your personal collection). You can choose one vintage and one modern card.
In terms of my vintage, here's my choice.
Here's my modern choice
For vintage, I'm gonna say 55 Topps Hank Aaron. I always loved Hammerin' Hank and I think the 55 looks good, especially with the old school Braves logo.
ReplyDeleteFor modern, I'd go with Seneca Wallace's 03 LCM Mirror Black 1/1. It has a shield jersey piece, plus pieces of a shoe, helmet, and football, PLUS an autograph. Crazy nice card for Seneca, likely his best one. Here's a pic: http://media.photobucket.com/image/seneca%20wallace/jdub5498/Seneca%20Wallace/002.jpg?o=10
For vintage I'd love a 1933 Goudey DiMaggio or Jimmie Foxx. For modern it would be some of the 2007 Exquisite Michael Young patch auto combo cards.
ReplyDeleteVintage: Nolan Ryan RC. I suppose I could say a PSA-7 or better T206 Wagner, which I could then sell and use to buy a whole bunch of other cards including the Ryan. But the Ryan RC is the only real vintage that would matter in my PC.
ReplyDeleteModern: Maybe a 2001 Bowman Chrome Pujols RC AU, or an Ichiro autograph/patch (there are a couple), or a really nice jumbo patch of Ryan, Gwynn, Pujols, Ichiro, or Griffey Jr.
Oh, about the letterman patches, I think they also spell out "ROOKIE".
ReplyDeleteLike Ryan, I'd go for a Nolan Ryan Rookie in great shape. For a more modern card I'd say one of Joe Mauers early autos.
ReplyDeleteVintage I have to go with 52 Mantle, as cliche as it is. I want a vintage Mantle in the worst way, and if I could have any of course I'd want this.
ReplyDeleteModern day would be an on-card auto of Jeter. I don't own a Jeter auto and it's a huge void in my collection.
Vintage: 1955 Topps Roberto Clemente RC
ReplyDeleteModern: http://www.checkoutmycards.com/Cards/Football/2010/Topps_Tribute_Dual_Autographs/DABT/Sam_Bradford_Tim_Tebow/5278969
My vintage pick would be a 1955 Topps Sandy Koufax.
ReplyDeleteMy modern pick would be a 2011 Bowman Chrome Dee Gordon auto.
Well, being a Braves fan I would have to go with a '54 Hank Aaron rookie for vintage. As for a modern card, I would take a sweet Dan Marino auto/patch.
ReplyDeleteVintage, for me, would be a 1954 Ernie Banks. I have most of his other regular-issue Topps cards, and the ones I don't should be able to come pretty cheap. The '54, though, will cost me quite a bit.
ReplyDeleteModern, without question, would be a 2005-2006 Upper Deck Young Guns card of Sidney Crosby. Ideally, I'd like to go graded, but truthfully, I'd take whatever I could get.
a nice sharp '54 Hank Aaron for me.
ReplyDeleteand a 07/08 The Cup rookie patch auto of Carey Price
I'll just need to sell my house first.
Vintage, is a toss up, but I'll go with a '68 Nolan Ryan/Jerry Koosman RC
ReplyDeleteModern, 2002 Bowman Chrome David Wright RC Auto.
Awww yeah. That'd be nice.
Vintage - 1975 George Brett
ReplyDeletehttp://www.checkoutmycards.com/Cards/Baseball/1975/Topps/228/George_Brett_RC/1849801
Modern - 8 patch card, Warner/Fitzgerald/Manning/Wayne/Rivers/Jackson/Delhomme/Smith

Vintage wise I'm going '55 Willie Mays. I like the look of the '55's. Modern, I'm greedy. I need/want all three '83 cards of Tony Gwynn.
ReplyDeleteVintage would be either a Nolan Ryan RC or the iconic 52 Mantle.
ReplyDeleteModern would be a nice Piazza Mets auto since I don't have any Piazza autos.
Willie Mays RC!!
ReplyDeleteFor Modern, I guess I'd go with a Pujols RC Auto.
Vintage: Koufax RC
ReplyDeleteModern: Matt Kemp 2005 Bowman Chrome Auto
Vintage would have to be a Brooks Robinson rookie card!
ReplyDeleteModern would be a 2003 Bowman Chrome Draft Picks Nick Markakis Gold Refractor Autograph
I have expensive tastes!
Vintage,1938 Goudey Heads-Up Bob Feller XRC #288
ReplyDeleteModern, 2009 Topps Sterling C.C. Sabathia Auto/Jersey 1/1 http://cgi.ebay.com/2009-TOPPS-STERLING-CC-C-C-SABATHIA-AUTO-JERSEY-D-1-1-/350423873925?pt=US_Baseball&hash=item5196e3f985
vintage: my LCS has a really nice Mantle Auto ($400)
ReplyDeleteModern: Utley Rookie Auto
and I'm glad you got the cards safely and liked them.
A 52 Red (Al) Schoendienst, and a 2011 Gypsy Queen Pujols Printing plate if that counts as a card.
ReplyDeleteVintage: Any Babe Ruth. There are only ten 1914 Baltimore Sun Babe Ruth rookie cards known in existence. How crazy would it be to have one of the ten?
ReplyDeleteModern: Any Javy Lopez 1/1. For example:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Javy-Lopez-1-1-Dual-Jersey-Patch-Bat-Leaf-Limited-55-/230631367147?pt=US_Baseball&hash=item35b2b361eb#ht_720wt_956
Vintage: Nolan Ryan RC
ReplyDeleteModern: It would involve Nolan Ryan and probably some high end card like Triple Threads or something like that. Nothing specific comes to mind...
I won't consider my personal collection complete until I track down a John Stockton on-card autograph (but I wouldn't sneeze at a sticker graph of my favorite NBAer of all time).
ReplyDeleteMy vintage want card would be a 1922 American Caramel Babe Ruth "Bird in Hand" card. Pricey, I know, but it makes me laugh every time I see one.
ReplyDeleteMy modern want would be any Sandy Koufax auto card from 2011.
BTW, I noticed the PRO graded card of Mays above. Please, never buy a PRO graded card. 99 times out of 100 a vintage PRO graded card is trimmed. In fact, the Mays above is obviously trimmed.
An Artie Wilson card from Cuba for Vintage and a Bip Roberts 1/1 for modern
ReplyDeleteVintage-ish: 1973 Topps Mike Schmidt rookie
ReplyDeleteModern: Albert Pujols 2001 Bowman Chrome
